Remember how our grannies had no idea how to use makeup when we were little?

Even though they were not too old- maybe in their 60s- they seemed to have compromised with the fact that their days of beauty were already behind them and that they couldn’t do anything about it.

Now, think of modern women in their 60s. Julianne Moore is almost 62, Madonna is 63, while Meg Ryan is soon celebrating her 61st birthday.

Do they look old? Definitely not.

And, although one may say people today have access to other kinds of therapy rather than “a good night’s sleep and lots of water” to help them look fresh for longer, makeup definitely helps.

And Angie from Hot and Flashy is here to help women over 50 lift their faces up a little bit using the right techniques when it comes to their makeup routine.

Still, she explains there is no right and wrong way to do makeup, there are just ideal and less ideal ways to go with it.

The first tip Angie has to give to her older subscribers is that they shouldn’t apply concealer all the way underneath their eyes.

Although younger women can do that, it’s not advisable for older ones because of the wrinkles they tend to have around the eyes. Concealer, being creamy, has the tendency to go sit in those wrinkles highlighting them instead of hiding them.

Second things second, eye shadows. Angie explains that there are people who apply light eyeshadow all the way from the movable lid to underneath the brow bow.

This is actually the “less than optimal” version of applying eyeshadow because it makes the part underneath the brow protrude forward, which is something we don’t want.

Moving on, she uses a darker eyeshadow and applies it in the outer corner of the eye as many people do.

Well, that’s a no-no! As she explains, what this does is to drag the eye down. And guess what! We don’t want that!

Now, what is the “optimal” way of applying eyeshadow?

Work with the light color all over the movable lid and up to the crease, and use the dark color right above the crease. This will make the eyelid look bigger.

Whatever you do, make sure you work with your brush going up as you blend the eyeshadows so that your eyes look more lifted up instead of going down.

Angie’s mascara tip? Try to get more mascara on the lashes that are close to the outer corner so that the eyes look fresher. You see, too much mascara all around the eyes makes them look smaller and darker than you’d want to.

When working on your brows, remember not to bring them too low, Angie advises.

As for bronzer, make sure you keep it out of the temple! You can use it higher on your cheeks to sculpt them a little bit.

Feathery strokes with your blush brush higher on the cheeks, put on your lipstick but avoid getting any color on the inner corner of the lips, and you’re practically ready to go!

Judging by the comparison Angie is sharing of her face having used makeup “ideally” and “less ideally”, these tips do make a difference.

So, why not play with these tricks at home and see how they work on your face?
