If you’re in the over-50s crowd and want a fresh, no-makeup look that only takes 5 minutes from start to finish, this is the routine that you’ve been looking for!

Here’s what Sally, the resident makeup expert with Look Fabulous Forever (a cosmetics line for older faces) has to say about which products can help you create a clean, polished look when you’re in a rush.

Start with a primer.

If you’ve ever painted a wall in your home, you know how important it is to use a primer first. The same thing applies to your makeup. It might seem like an unnecessary step, but it really does help create a smooth surface for your makeup to stick to so it lasts all day.

Glow up with a BB cream instead of foundation.

Unlike foundation, which can sink into fine lines and wrinkles, BB creams give you a sheer, natural glow. It’s like your own skin, but better. They’re usually made with skin-loving ingredients, and function more like a tinted moisturizer than a coverup.

Sally recommends spending a couple of minutes here to blend it out, so you have the perfect canvas “to paint the picture with a little bit of color.”

Go easy with the concealer.

Dab concealer on any areas that may need a little bit more work, like dark under-eye circles, the “blue-y bits” near the corner of the eyes, or age spots. Keep it more natural looking by using a very light touch.

Swipe eyeshadow on your lashline to create more definition.

When you’re in a rush, there’s no time for a full eye-makeup look. Grab an eyeliner brush and use that to apply a darker, neutral eyeshadow to the base of your lashes.

It’ll help create the illusion of thickness, and it looks more natural than harsh liquid or pencil eyeliners.

Learn to love cream blush.

Unlike powder blushes, which can make more mature skin look like parchment paper, cream blushes add a lovely, dewy glow. Just dab a few dots onto your cheekbones and lightly blend it in with your fingers.

Followup with a bronzer.

Add a little bit more depth and color by lightly applying bronzer over your blush. Sally uses a big, fluffy brush to swipe bronzer over her browbone for an extra wash of color.

“If you’re in a hurry and just want a little bit of extra color, then the bronzer is good.”

Make mascara your best friend.

Even a light application of mascara can make your eyes pop! Sally recommends applying mascara to the bottom lashes if you have a few extra seconds.

“I wouldn’t leave the house without my mascara, my blusher, my lippie. Absolutely not!”

Top it off with lipstick.

Forget the complicated lip liners and lip brushes. Just swipe it on and press your lips to blend it in.

Fill in your brows to complete the look.

To prove that this really only takes 5 minutes, Sally set a timer beforehand that didn’t go off until after she was done fluffing her hair.
